Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work View From The Villa Medici Looking Towards The Casino Of Raphael by Auguste Jean-Baptiste Vinchon was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in February 2020, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 4,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,625.00 (€ 1,473.92). Admittedly, works by Auguste Jean-Baptiste Vinchon have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Chevaux Effrayés, Détail De La Bataille De Constantin D'Après Raphael. Auguste-Jean-Baptiste Vinchon ; Scared Horses, After Raffaello ; Oil On Canvas in June 2011 with an auction result of EUR 12,500.00.
