Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait Of A Lady, Said To Be Lady Singer, Half-Length, In A White Lace Dress, Holding Roses by Archibald Stuart Wortley was auctioned at Christies in London in February 2013, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,000.00 (€ 1,161.56). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Archibald Stuart Wortley achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The March Past: Howard, Alan and Nairne, sons of Alfred Reynolds, Esq. in December 2021 with an auction result of GBP 32,500.00 (€ 38,765.68).
