Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Scenes From The Story Of Paris by Apollonio di Giovanni was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in January 2016, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 100,000.00 – 150,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 87,500.00 (€ 80,779.17). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Apollonio di Giovanni achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Battle Before A Walled City, Perhaps The Siege Of Assisi in January 2008 with an auction result of USD 1,273,000.00 (€ 857,758.91).
