Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Retour de Chasse': Portrait of Marie-Louise Sirois (1698-1725), full-length, with two dogs, a musket, hunting bag and game in a landscape by Antoine Watteau was sold in the Old Masters auction at Christies in New York in October 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 60,000.00 – 80,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 62,500.00 (€ 55,153.55) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Antoine Watteau achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Le Pèlerinage a l’Ile de Cythère in January this year with an auction result of USD 1,860,000.00 (€ 1,713,022.66).

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 60.000,00 – 80.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 62.500,00 (€ 55.153,55) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Antoine Watteau erzielen.
