This artwork by Andrea Mantegna achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in July 2009. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work The Battle of the Sea Gods (B. 17 & 18; Hind 5 & 6; Martineau 79), engraving with drypoint, circa 1470's, a good impression of this rare and important print, with extensive paper losses, tears and repairs with part of the subject missing, the irregular sh sold for GBP 3,250.00 (€ 3,687.78) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Andrea Mantegna achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Triumph Of Alexandria in January 2020 with an auction result of USD 11,654,000.00 (€ 10,505,724.33).

Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Andrea Mantegna erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit The Triumph Of Alexandria im Januar 2020 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.654.000,00 (€ 10.505.724,33).
