Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892); Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882); Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910); And William Gladstone (1809-1898) by Alois Heinrich Priechenfried was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2006, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,620.00 (€ 2,364.67). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Alois Heinrich Priechenfried achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Yeshiva boy reading in September 2018 with an auction result of GBP 65,000.00 (€ 73,003.36).
