In September 2002 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL WATERCOLOURS AND DRAWINGS, which included the work Cairo, Egypt by Alexandre Nicolaievich Roussoff. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 1,175.00 (€ 1,867.34), 68% above the upper estimate. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Alexandre Nicolaievich Roussoff; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot A calm day on the Venetian lagoon sold at auction in October 2006 with the realized price of GBP 1,320.00 (€ 1,972.20).
