Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2019 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work La Belle Portia by Alexandre Cabanel. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 150,000.00 – 200,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 162,500.00 (€ 145,752.98) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Alexandre Cabanel have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Birth of Venus in October 2002 with an auction result of USD 834,500.00 (€ 844,550.15).
