Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In October 2020 Sothebys in New York held the auction 19th Century European Art, which included the work Desdémone by Alexandre Cabanel. The »bidding war« ended at USD 47,880.00 (€ 41,109.30), 20% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Alexandre Cabanel achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Birth of Venus in October 2002 with an auction result of USD 834,500.00 (€ 844,550.15).
