From the mid-18th century, drawings showing Neapolitans engaged in their daily pursuits – dancing, making music or eating and drinking – became increasingly popular. One of the first to produce this type of work was Pietro Fabris, whose genre drawings and paintings were hugely popular among (mainly British) Grand Tourists.
