This artwork by Afsoon achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Dubai in October 2012. In the Modern and Contemporary Arab, Iranian and Turkish Art Part II auction, the work The Shah And His Three Queens (From The Fairytale Icons Series) sold for USD 27,500.00 (€ 21,222.41) - well above the upper estimate of USD 15,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Afsoon; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Shah and His Three Queens (from the Fairytale Icons series) sold at auction in April 2011 with the realized price of USD 37,500.00 (€ 25,301.94).
