Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Ayam Jago (Man with a Fighting Rooster) by Affandi was worth HKD 3,620,000.00 (€ 323,825.82) to a buyer in May 2011. This price was achieved in the auction Southeast Asian Modern and Contemporary Art at Christies in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 1,000,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Affandi - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Borobudur And The Sun, which sold at auction in October 2016 for HKD 9,800,000.00 (€ 1,153,256.70).
