Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Anton de Clerk could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2003 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime auction, the work The Danish topsail schooner Valborg of Viele off the Noord Hinder lightship, with the pilot cutter approaching changed hands for GBP 1,116.25 (€ 1,555.22) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Anton de Clerk - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The British Topsail Schooner Coronella Passing A Lighthouse; And The Coronella At Sea By The West Hinder Lightship, which sold at auction in May 2006 for GBP 2,160.00 (€ 3,152.90).
