Still life in geometric abstraction
Agnieszka Krawczyk devotes herself to the classic motif of the still life in traditional painting with oil on canvas and yet gives expression to a completely new, modern pictorial language. Physical objects such as bottles, glasses, fruit and instruments are projected onto the flat plane in strong geometric abstraction, largely represented only by their outlines. Thus they meet, touch and overlap, form intersections, simulate a spatial depth by merging the colors, whereby foreground and background often remain interchangeable. The surrounding space is also projected onto the plane, dissected into large areas of color that merge with the objects of the still life. The entire pictorial space is thus worked out, divided into color fields.
Krawczyk makes the most of minimalist reduction, and yet the objects in her pictures remain clearly recognizable. In this respect, all the pictorial information that fell victim to abstraction was obviously superfluous. An attitude with which the artist sets a clear counterpoint to our visually overloaded world,
which demands more and more information, precision and detailed knowledge - possibly an optimization without substance that makes us better and better in a discipline that benefits no one.
