Despite a disappointment, a good price for Yutokusai Gyokkei
When the work A five-case lacquer inro by Yutokusai Gyokkei was auctioned at Bonhams in New York in March 2021, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for USD 1,530.00 (€ 1,302.90). Despite this disappointing result, A five-case lacquer inro is the most expensive artwork by Yutokusai Gyokkei that we have observed at auction so far.
