Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
When the work Red Coloured Pumpkin by Yayoi Kusama was auctioned at Bonhams in Hong Kong in May last year, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 150,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at HKD 532,200.00 (€ 63,183.56). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Yayoi Kusama achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Pumpkin in April this year with an auction result of HKD 30,000,000.00 (€ 30,635,869.57).
Kunstwerk zum Dreifachen des oberen Schätzpreises versteigert
Als die Arbeit Red Coloured Pumpkin von Yayoi Kusama im Mai letzten Jahres bei Bonhams in Hong Kong versteigert wurde, übertraf das Ergebnis die Erwartungen um ein Vielfaches. Der obere Schätzpreis war mit – rückwirkend betrachtet recht bescheidenen – HKD 150.000,00 angesetzt, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis hingegen war mit HKD 532.200,00 (€ 63.183,56) mehr als dreimal so hoch. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Yayoi Kusama erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Pumpkin im April diesen Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 30.000.000,00 (€ 30.635.869,57).
