This artwork by William Percy French achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in May 2007. In the The Irish Sale Part II auction, the work The edge of the lake sold for GBP 4,560.00 (€ 6,710.35) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 2,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Percy French achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work 'Paint Brush and Pen: Some Impressions for Pictures and Snatches of Song by William Percy French'; an album of thirteen watercolours including The Fairie's Cough; Morning; Evening; In the Studio; The Kindly Welcome; To E.R.; To the Dark Rosaleen; Gor in May 2000 with an auction result of GBP 58,750.00 (€ 94,2
