Auction result well in line with expectations
In January 2001 Christies in London held the auction BRITISH AND CONTINENTAL PAINTINGS, which included the work Portrait of a Spanish beauty, bust-length, wearing black with a rose in her hair, holding a fan by William Oliver. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,057.50 (€ 1,660.21) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by William Oliver have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Grand Canal, Venice in November 2000 with an auction result of GBP 7,637.50 (€ 12,483.19).
