Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Oliver could be acquired at Christies in London in January 2007 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Property From Encombe, Dorset & La Chasse, Jersey auction, the work Portrait of a lady, seated three-quarter-length, reading a book changed hands for GBP 3,600.00 (€ 5,431.57) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 4,000.00 – 6,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Oliver - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Grand Canal, Venice, which sold at auction in November 2000 for GBP 7,637.50 (€ 12,483.19).
