The work An album of drawings compiled by William Mason (1725-1797), including sixteen sheets by The Reverend William Gilpin, one by Alexander Cozens, and two papercuts by Mrs Siddons, in a morocco leather binding tooled in gilt by William Mason was sold in the Old Master & British Drawings & Watercolours auction at Christies in London in July 2018. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 10,000.00 – 15,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 11,250.00 (€ 12,613.72) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, An album of drawings compiled by William Mason (1725-1797), including sixteen sheets by The Reverend William Gilpin, one by Alexander Cozens, and two papercuts by Mrs Siddons, in a morocco leather binding tooled in gilt is the most expensive artwork by William Mason that we have observed at auctions so far.
