Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Swing by William James Glackens was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in December 2020. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 250,000.00 – 350,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 252,000.00 (€ 206,050.70) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William James Glackens - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Café Lafayette (Portrait of Kay Laurell), which sold at auction in November 2018 for USD 792,500.00 (€ 699,902.85).
