Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Howard Yorke could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2012 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime Art auction, the work The Swedish brigantine Wasa of Figeholm passing the South Stack lighthouse on her way to Liverpool changed hands for GBP 2,500.00 (€ 3,114.89) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Admittedly, works by William Howard Yorke have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The American clipper Caravan rendering assistance to a British full-rigger in mid-Atlantic in July 2003 with an auction result of USD 23,900.00 (€ 19,415.11).
