Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2008 a collector was able to acquire the work The American clipper ship Susan Howland passing a lighthouse; thought to be Perch Rock Lighthouse and Fort by William Howard Yorke for USD 7,500.00 (€ 5,053.57). This price was achieved in the auction Maritime Art Including Fine Paintings, Nautical Antiques, Scrimshaw And Ship Models at Christies in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 8,000.00 – 12,000.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Howard Yorke - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The American clipper Caravan rendering assistance to a British full-rigger in mid-Atlantic, which sold at auction in July 2003 for USD 23,900.00 (€ 19,415.11).
