Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by William Gibbons could be acquired at Christies in London in May 2004 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Maritime Pictures auction, the work The Light of all Nations: The Eddystone rock and lighthouse off Plymouth in the English Channel changed hands for GBP 191.20 (€ 286.87) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00. Admittedly, works by William Gibbons have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Racing cutters running into the estuary at Dartmouth in May 2003 with an auction result of GBP 1,292.50 (€ 1,800.78).
