Auction result well in line with expectations
In April 2014 Christies in London held the auction Travel, Science & Natural History, which included the work Unknown by William Ellis. The price achieved of GBP 625.00 (€ 760.77) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 500.00 – 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by William Ellis achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Winfield Scott marching into Mexico City in November 2001 with an auction result of USD 149,000.00 (€ 166,331.77).
