The »bidding war« ended at GBP 717.00 (€ 1,031.40), 20% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by William Daniel Penny - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work The Steamer Salisbury Off The South Foreland, which sold at auction in November 2001 for GBP 1,997.50 (€ 3,178.65).
