This artwork by Wayne Thiebaud achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in September 2016. In the Thiebaud from Thiebaud: Prints and Works on Paper from the Private Studio of Wayne Thiebaud auction, the work Eight Lipsticks sold for USD 87,500.00 (€ 77,860.83) - well above the upper estimate of USD 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Wayne Thiebaud achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Encased Cakes in July last year with an auction result of HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84).

Oberer Schätzpreis um 75 % übertroffen

Dieses Kunstwerk von Wayne Thiebaud erzielte im September 2016 bei Christies in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Thiebaud from Thiebaud: Prints and Works on Paper from the Private Studio of Wayne Thiebaud wurde die Arbeit Eight Lipsticks für USD 87.500,00 (€ 77.860,83) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 50.000,00. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Wayne Thiebaud erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Encased Cakes im Juli letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84).
