A top price for Wayne Thiebaud - as previously expected
The work Encased Cakes by Wayne Thiebaud was auctioned at POLY in Hong Kong in July last year. The price achieved of HKD 79,200,000.00 (€ 9,882,532.84) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as HKD 60,000,000.00 – 86,000,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Encased Cakes is the most expensive artwork by Wayne Thiebaud that we have observed at auctions so far.

Die Arbeit Encased Cakes von Wayne Thiebaud kam im Juli letzten Jahres bei POLY in Hong Kong zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von HKD 79.200.000,00 (€ 9.882.532,84) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit HKD 60.000.000,00 – 86.000.000,00 angegeben worden. Auch wenn das Ergebnis damit nicht positiv überraschen konnte, ist Encased Cakes das teuerste Kunstwerk von Wayne Thiebaud, das wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachtet haben.
