Commentaire : Walter Pompe traita à plusieurs reprises le thème du martyre de saint Sébastien. La plus remarquable sculpture est sans doute celle réalisée pour l'église Saint Benoît de Morstel, pour laquelle le Louvre conserve une maquette en terre cuite.

This artwork by Walter Pompe achieved an unexpectedly high price at Artcurial in Paris in October 2014. In the Old Master & 19th Century Paintings and Drawings, Sculptures, Frames auction, the work Saint Sébastien sold for EUR 1,201.00 - well above the upper estimate of EUR 600.00. Admittedly, works by Walter Pompe have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Madonna mit Kind in November 2015 with an auction result of EUR 10,540.00.
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Walter Pompe erzielte im Oktober 2014 bei Artcurial in Paris einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Master & 19th Century Paintings and Drawings, Sculptures, Frames wurde die Arbeit Saint Sébastien für EUR 1.201,00 versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von EUR 600,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Walter Pompe auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Madonna mit Kind im November 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 10.540,00.
