Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Gateway Center, Pittsburgh by W. Eugene Smith was sold in the The Eye That Shapes: Further Selections from the Peter C. Bunnell Collection auction at Phillips in an online auction in February this year. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 2,016.00 (€ 1,901.53) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by W. Eugene Smith achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work The Walk to Paradise Garden, 1946 in October 2016 with an auction result of USD 52,500.00 (€ 47,892.72).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Gateway Center, Pittsburgh von W. Eugene Smith wurde im Februar diesen Jahres in der Auktion The Eye That Shapes: Further Selections from the Peter C. Bunnell Collection bei Phillips in einer Online-Auktion versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 2.016,00 (€ 1.901,53) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von W. Eugene Smith erzielen.
