Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price

When the work The French coaster Le Perrey outward-bound from Le Havre by Victor Charles Edouard Adam was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2007, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - GBP 800.00 but the actual price achieved was more than three times as high at GBP 2,400.00 (€ 3,531.76). Admittedly, works by Victor Charles Edouard Adam have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Charles Dennis off the Coast in December 2000 with an auction result of USD 14,100.00 (€ 15,019.17).
