Sitnikov was arrested in 1941, declared insane by the authorities and sent to Kazan for treatment. He returned to Moscow in 1944 where he established himself as an artist and influenced a number of his non-conformist contemporaries such as Vladimir Weisberg with the hazy mist-like effect he created by applying dry brush to canvas. He emigrated to the West in 1975 and died in New York.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Nude by Vasily Sitnikov was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in October 2018. The price achieved of USD 15,000.00 (€ 13,236.85) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 12,000.00 – 18,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Vasily Sitnikov achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Self-Portrait With Crows By The Kremlin in November 2015 with an auction result of GBP 110,500.00 (€ 157,390.84).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit Nude von Vasily Sitnikov kam im Oktober 2018 bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 15.000,00 (€ 13.236,85) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 12.000,00 – 18.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Vasily Sitnikov erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Self-Portrait With Crows By The Kremlin im November 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 110.500,00 (€ 157.390,84).
