Auction result misses estimated price range
In January 2021 a collector was able to acquire the work A title page decorated with a vase of flowers, lions and putti by Valerio Spada for USD 1,638.00 (€ 1,349.81). This price was achieved in the auction From Taddeo to Tiepolo: The Dr. John O’Brien Collection of Old Master Drawings at Sothebys in New York and was even below the estimate range of USD 2,000.00 – 3,000.00 set by the auction house. Admittedly, works by Valerio Spada have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work An allegory of Victory on a oak tree (the badge of the Della Rovere family) supporting the arms of the Medici and the Habsburgs, a hunting scene in the background in July 2004 with an auction result of GBP 3,824.00 (€ 5,778.91).
