This artwork by Vincenzo Canino achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in April 2005. In the THE COLLECTION OF S.A.R. LA PRINCIPESSA REALE DI SAVOIA auction, the work Vittorio Emanuele III, King of Italy (1869-1947) with Pope Benedict PP. XV. sold for GBP 1,560.00 (€ 2,309.03) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 600.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Vincenzo Canino; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Napoli, al mercato sold at auction in November 2002 with the realized price of EUR 3,224.00.
