This price was achieved in the auction Important Japanese Art at Christies and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 20,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Utagawa Hiroshige - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi (The fifty-three stations of the Tokaido), which sold at auction in September 2002 for USD 207,500.00 (€ 210,041.50).
