A top price for Thornton Oakley - as previously expected
In December 2012 Christies in New York held the auction The National Geographic Collection: The Art of Exploration, which included the work Man-Made Lightening by Thornton Oakley. The result of USD 5,000.00 (€ 3,791.90) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 8,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Man-Made Lightening is the most expensive artwork by Thornton Oakley that we have observed at auctions so far.
