Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of A Gentleman, Half-Length, In A Brown Coat And Yellow Striped Waistcoat by Thomas Peat was auctioned at Christies in London in March 2006, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 384.00 (€ 550.20). Admittedly, works by Thomas Peat have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Mrs Martyr, In Low-Cut White Dress With Fichu, Holding Her Green Sash In Her Left Hand, Wide Green Hat With Green Ribbon In Her Long Dark Curling Hair; Red Curtain Background With Stone Ledge And Landscape Beyond in November 2006 with an auction result of GBP 3,600.00 (€ 5,346.11).
