Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Venice, Sunset behind Santa Maria by Thomas Moran was sold in the 19th Century American Art auction at Christies in New York in January this year. The price achieved of USD 214,200.00 (€ 197,273.90) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 150,000.00 – 250,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Thomas Moran achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Green River of Wyoming in May 2008 with an auction result of USD 17,737,000.00 (€ 11,399,100.26).

Die Arbeit Venice, Sunset behind Santa Maria von Thomas Moran wurde im Januar diesen Jahres in der Auktion 19th Century American Art bei Christies in New York versteigert. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 214.200,00 (€ 197.273,90) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 150.000,00 – 250.000,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Thomas Moran erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit Green River of Wyoming im Mai 2008 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 17.737.000,00 (€ 11.399.100,26).
