In April 2015 Sothebys in New York held the auction The Weldon Collection, which included the work Still Life With Fruit And Oysters On A Table by Thomas Mertens. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 40,000.00 – 60,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 43,750.00 (€ 39,195.48) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Still Life With Fruit And Oysters On A Table is the most expensive artwork by Thomas Mertens that we have observed at auctions so far.
