Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2008 Christies in London held the auction West ~ East - The Niall Hobhouse Collection, which included the work Design for a four poster bed and a secretaire by Thomas Malton the Elder. The price achieved of GBP 1,625.00 (€ 2,067.07) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Malton the Elder - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A perspective drawing of a desk and chair, which sold at auction in January 2011 for USD 6,000.00 (€ 4,374.77).
