Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of a lady, thought to be the daughter of Samuel Greenwood, bust-length, profile, wearing red earrings by Thomas Binney Gibbs was auctioned at Christies in London in October 2003, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 300.00 – 500.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 293.75 (€ 429.05). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Thomas Binney Gibbs - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a young boy, half-length, in a blue coat and white shirt, which sold at auction in September 2006 for GBP 600.00 (€ 885.13).
