The result of USD 6,000.00 (€ 5,272.87) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of USD 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Admittedly, works by Theodor Matthei have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Kleopatra mit der Schlange. in September 2009 with an auction result of CHF 60,000.00 (€ 39,527.00).
Zuschlag beim unteren Schätzpreis
Die Arbeit German Blossoms von Theodor Matthei wurde im Februar 2019 in der Auktion 19th Century European Art bei Sothebys in New York versteigert. Das dabei erzielte Ergebnis von USD 6.000,00 (€ 5.272,87) entsprach exakt dem unteren Ende der Schätzpreisspanne von USD 6.000,00 – 8.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Theodor Matthei auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Kleopatra mit der Schlange. im September 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von CHF 60.000,00 (€ 39.527,00).
