Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2004 Christies in London held the auction British and Continental Watercolours including Original, which included the work Temple ruins at dusk; and Arabs spinning before a mosque by Spyridon Scarvelli. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,151.00 (€ 3,250.63) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Spyridon Scarvelli have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Piraeus in May 2007 with an auction result of GBP 18,000.00 (€ 26,488.22).
