Auction result misses estimated price range
In June 2005 a collector was able to acquire the work On The Nile At Dusk; And Cairo Street Scene by Spyridon Scarvelli for GBP 1,440.00 (€ 2,134.17). This price was achieved in the auction 19th Century European Art including Russian Pictures at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Spyridon Scarvelli achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Piraeus in May 2007 with an auction result of GBP 18,000.00 (€ 26,488.22).
