Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Song Ling achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in Hong Kong in April 2012. In the Contemporary Asian Art auction, the work Meaningless Choice? No. 3 (Set Of Six) sold for HKD 1,820,000.00 (€ 177,336.16) - well above the upper estimate of HKD 800,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Song Ling; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Meaningless Choice? No. 1 (Set Of Six) sold at auction in October 2011 with the realized price of HKD 2,420,000.00 (€ 223,486.05).
