Auction result misses estimated price range
In November 2019 a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of Charles William de la Poer, 1st Baron Beresford (1846-1919), at his desk by Robert Ponsonby Staples for GBP 375.00 (€ 440.34). This price was achieved in the auction The Ross Collection From Knockmore, Enniskerry, Wicklow, Part II at Christies in London and was even below the estimate range of GBP 700.00 – 1,000.00 set by the auction house. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Robert Ponsonby Staples achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work On the beach, Broadstairs, Kent in May 2002 with an auction result of GBP 21,510.00 (€ 33,684.95).
