Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Portrait of James Graham (1682-1742), 1st Duke of Montrose, half-length, in a brown cloak and white cravat by John Baptist Medina was auctioned at Christies in London in May 2005, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 1,800.00 (€ 2,657.36). Other works by John Baptist Medina have also sold for higher prices; the highest price we have seen at auction so far was achieved in October 2018 by the work Sir Hugh Cunningham of Bonnington at GBP 4,500.00 (€ 5,074.61).
Auktionsergebnis verfehlt die Schätzpreisspanne
Als die Arbeit Portrait of James Graham (1682-1742), 1st Duke of Montrose, half-length, in a brown cloak and white cravat von John Baptist Medina im Mai 2005 bei Christies in London versteigert wurde, fiel das Ergebnis ein wenig enttäuschend aus. Das Auktionshaus hatte den Schätzpreis zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 2.000,00 – 3.000,00 angegeben, von der nicht einmal die Untergrenze erreicht wurde - tatsächlich wechselte das Kunstwerk für GBP 1.800,00 (€ 2.657,36) den Besitzer. Andere Arbeiten von John Baptist Medina wurden auch schon teurer gehandelt; den höchsten Preis, den wir bisher bei Auktionen beobachten konnten, erzielte im Oktober 2018 die Arbeit Sir Hugh Cunningham of Bonnington mit GBP 4.500,00 (€ 5.074,61).
