Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by George Hayter could be acquired at Sothebys in New York in June 2009 for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Master & 19th Century European Art auction, the work Portrait Of John Jonson, Lord Mayor Of London In 1845 changed hands for USD 3,750.00 (€ 2,674.75) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 5,000.00 – 10,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Hayter achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Charlotte, Countess de la Bourdonnaye (1795-1875), Full-Length, In A Green Dress, Seated On A Day Bed On A Terrace, A Dog On Her Lap, Before A Draped Curtain, With An Extensive Landscape Beyond in June 2005 with an auction result of GBP 46,800.00 (€ 69,360.56).
