Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A merchant brig in two positions off Flamborough Head by George Chambers Snr. was sold in the Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in October 2008. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 3,500.00 (€ 4,461.24) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by George Chambers Snr. have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Margate in April last year with an auction result of GBP 35,580.00 (€ 42,427.89).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Die Arbeit A merchant brig in two positions off Flamborough Head von George Chambers Snr. wurde im Oktober 2008 in der Auktion Maritime Art bei Christies in London versteigert. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 3.000,00 – 5.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 3.500,00 (€ 4.461,24) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Chambers Snr. auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Margate im April letzten Jahres mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 35.580,00 (€ 42.427,89).
