This artwork by Sergei Svetoslavsky achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in November 2003. In the Important Silver, Russian Works of Art and Paintings auction, the work Oriental Market Scene sold for GBP 26,290.00 (€ 37,739.68) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 15,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Sergei Svetoslavsky; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Journey sold at auction in November 2012 with the realized price of GBP 61,250.00 (€ 75,453.79).
